The second press conference of the 2nd BRICS Film Festival is unveiled in Chengdu on June 5, 2017 and attended by deputy inspector Zhou Jiandong of the Film Bureau of State Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television (SAPPRFT), deputy director Li Wanheng of the Administration of Press, Publication, Radio, Film and Television of Sichuan Province, xxx of the Chengdu Municipal People’s Government, director Shi Jiang and deputy director Lin Jinquan of Chengdu Administration of Culture, Radio, Television and Press, director Wang Pingjiu of CCTV Movie Channel Program Production Center of SAPPRFT, regional director Ms. Gao Jinqiu of MaoYan Movie, southwestern regional director Ms. Lan Lin of Weiying Shidai, and other guests.

The BRICS Film Festival, first held in September 2016 in New Delhi, India, is an important cultural activity of BRICS cooperative mechanism. On January 1, 2017, China succeeds India as the host country of BRICS and is expected to preside over the 9th BRICS Summit in Xiamen in September the same year. As part of the Summit activities, the 2nd BRICS Film Festival” is slated to take place in Chengdu from June 23 to 27, 2017. Film industry professionals from China, Brazil, Russia, India and South Africa and media at home and abroad will meet at the gala seeking cooperation on the development of film industries.

In order to fully showcase different cultural characteristics and film achievements of BRICS members, thoughtful arrangements will be made in screening content and each of the five member countries will be invited to recommend two films for competition as well as two newly released films and two classic ones to be screened at the Festival, totally30 films of diverse styles and genres.

Competition films are works released between 2015 and 2016, which represent the latest achievements the five member countries have garnered in the course of film development; screenings resemble the peculiar cultural charm of films produced by each country from another perspective; and classic films are deeply familiar to Chinese audiences and enable the fans to relive their memories.

Five “Panda Awards” are set at the Festival, respectively the Best Film, Best Director, Best Actor, Best Actress, and Panel’s Special Award. The panel is composed of renowned filmmakers from the five member countries namely Eduardo Valente (Brazil), Sergey Morkrisky (Russia), Neelakanta Reddy (India) and Xoliswa Sithole (South Africa), with Xie Fei the famous Chinese director as chairman.

In addition, the film shown at the opening ceremony is Where Has the Time Gone co-produced by the famous directors from BRICS countries while the closing film is Mrs. Right Guy recommended by South Africa, the next host country of BRICS Film Festival.

The 2nd BRICKS Film Festival is the first to launch the “National Film Day” activity exhibiting different film cultures of different countries themed by “Various Cultures, Equal Splendor” in the way of “one film culture of a country each day”. The Festival will last five days and during which the China Film Day (June 23), Brazil Film Day (June 24), Russia Film Day (June 25), India Film Day (June 26), and South Africa Film Day (June 27) will be held at the Chengdu International Financial City UA Theater. The films will be screened through “cinema + community, viewing + interaction” to attract wider public participation and create better viewing and exchanging atmosphere at five other theaters in addition to the Chengdu International Financial City UA Theater, including Palace Cinema at Taikoo Li, China Film Stellar Theater, Chengdu 773IMAX Cinema at Eastern Suburb Memory, Stellar Xuefu Cinema, Stellar International Cinema at Chengdu Global Center, and Chengdu Heping Cinema.

A film cooperation forum will be staged at the official hotel (Niccolo Chengdu) on the afternoon of June 24 to discuss the “channel of film cooperation between BRICS nations”, and the governmental heads of film departments from the member countries, the protagonists of competition and screening films and some well-known Chinese filmmakers will exchange opinions and share the advances of motion pictures and discuss in depth the topics such as jointly shooting films and intensifying market cooperation.

The opening and closing ceremonies are under preparation and will be broadcast live at the CCTV Movie Channel Programming Center (CCTV-6), CCTV-6, Sichuan Satellite TV and Chengdu TV Station.

For the convenience of buying tickets, the Festival is working with Weiying Shidai and MaoYan Movie to provide online sales channels for film fans and online ticketing service will be officially available from June 16, 2017.
